I opened a G Suite console for a K-12 client on Thursday, with plans to create a sub-organization for a problematic student that needed some websites and extensions blocked on their Chromebook.
Behold, a new Google feature made this task easier for me:
(To find this: Apps–>Additional Google Services–>Chrome Management–>Apps and Extensions)
Now, instead of being reactive and blocking sites as this student finds them (the school was not ready to make a custom store for their school yet, and preferred this reactive approach to extension installation), I can block an entire category in advance. VPN Providers will likely be a popular request – they are the extensions that we see blocked the most.
If you are wondering what some of these extension types/protocols mean, here is a handy reference chart from Google.
Happy extension blocking!
